Why the IVF calculation is so precise.
After fertility treatment the due date can be calculated more precisely than after a natural conception: the moment of fertilisation is known exactly. The age of the embryo is subtracted from the day of transfer – and from this day of fertilisation one counts 266 days (38 weeks) to the estimated due date. For a frozen transfer the same calculation applies, using the age of the embryo at the time of freezing.
We carry out the beta-hCG blood test here at the institute about 12 to 14 days after the transfer – please do not test at home any earlier, as the result is not reliable before then.
