Insemination
Intrauterine insemination is the method of choice in men with minimally reduced fertility (either due to a slight depletion in the total number of sperm, or a decrease in the total number of fast, motile sperm) and provided that the female patient’s fallopian tubes are not blocked. The term “insemination” simply means artificially introducing the semen into the uterus.
If the male partner’s semen is inadequate for reproduction, there is always the possibility of heterologous intrauterine insemination using a donor's semen. However, treatment with donor semen requires that the female’s fallopian tubes must be opened and functioning.
