The WIF is the only fertility treatment institute in Vienna that has its own genetics department. The genetics department is run by the renowned geneticists Prof. Markus Hengstschläger.

Genetic analyses have a pivotal role in reproductive medicine for three reasons:

They improve the chance of having a successful pregnancy
They can be used to clarify the risk of having a miscarriage
They can identify the risk of inheriting genetic diseases to your offspring

Genetic screenings are particularly important in older couples seeking fertility treatment, couples suffering from abortus habitualis, and in patients that have already experienced several failed attempts at IVF.
