Overview
The "genetic building blocks" of expectant parents has a significant influence on the success of fertility treatment.
At the Wunschbaby Institute Feichtinger, we can examine the chromosomes of our future parents using a so-called Karyogram analysis. Using samples from both the patient's blood and the blood of her partner, the genetic components of the soon-to-be parents are visualized. Even perfectly healthy people can carry certain chromosomal changes which may not directly affect them but can lead to chromosomal maldistribution in the egg cell or sperm.
Advantages
Thanks to our analyses, we can successfully detect these changes and—after a genetic consultation using preimplantation diagnostics (PID)—can therefore select genetically inconspicuous embryos for implantation. Chromosomal analysis is the basic requirement for us to be able to perform PID. Through this analysis, both the probability of becoming pregnant after fertility treatment and giving birth to a healthy child can be significantly improved.
Indications
We recommend chromosome analyses for the following patient groups:
- Couples who have been trying in vain for a long time to fulfill their desire for children
- Couples who have already had several unsuccessful IVF attempts
- patients with abortus habitualis (recurrent miscarriages)
- Couples who would like to receive preimplantation diagnostics.
Workflow
-
1. Blood draw -
2. Chromosomal analysis -
3. Results -
4. Discussion of results
It usually takes three to four weeks after the date you had your blood drawn to receive your results.
