When and how is a testicular puncture performed?

Indication

If no sperm cells (azoospermia) are detected in the ejaculate, then an attempt to obtain fertile, vital sperm through PESA (percutaneous semen aspiration) or through open testicular biopsy can be performed.

With the use of the (oftentimes very few) preserved sperm cells or their precursor cells, fertilization of the oocytes can only be performed using the ICSI method.
