Cryopreservation of sperm

If the male partner cannot be present throughout the active fertility treatment due to professional or other reasons, it is possible to freeze his sperm. If necessary, the sperm can be thawed and then used to fertilize the eggs.

Patients with cancer who are about to receive aggressive therapy should be informed and educated about fertility maintenance measures. Radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy can potentially lead to permanently reduced fertility, which is why cryopreservation of the semen should be considered before starting cancer treatment, especially in patients who may someday want to fulfill their dreams of having children.
