Psychotherapeutic support
For many couples, children represent a living expression of their relationship and the completion of a family. This makes the absence of the so dearly wanted offspring all the more painful. Questions, such as “what are we doing wrong? Is there something wrong with us? Will we ever be able to have children?” often surface.
The diagnosis of being physically or biologically incapable of naturally conceiving a child often triggers feelings of remorse and helplessness. Shame and the feeling of inadequacy may begin to surface after discovering that something as “normal” as naturally conceiving is impossible. The idea that your own body could betray you ignites anger, fear, sadness, and hopelessness, and may make you feel isolated. These feelings, although you may be aware of them, often cannot be controlled and can have negative effects on the body and hormone balance.
To create optimal conditions for conception, it is therefore important to reincorporate balance into your body, mind and spirt.
A psychotherapeutic consultation can help couples find solutions that enable them to identify and feel more “positive” feelings, such as confidence and serenity.
Therapeutic assistance can additionally help couples to
- Reflect on their inner, individual strengths and the strength of their relationship
- Reignite the relationship
- Find other activities to take your mind off of matters (such as spending time with friends or family, travelling, participating in sports, cultural programs, simply spending time together) rather than focusing exclusively on negative feelings regarding your unborn child
- Return to a healthy physical and mental state, which can positively effect self-esteem and positively influence conception
- Discuss and decide on proper solutions for upcoming necessary medical treatment
- Recognize and process potential psychological causes of infertility so that the body can prepare itself for a successful, wanted pregnancy.
